Fix versus variable

My BG one yr fix rates to July 23 are :
standing charge elec 48.4,gas30.65
unit rate elec36.83,gas10.5
BG are offering a free switch to their standard variable to:
standing charge elec43.3, gas28.49
unit Rate elec33.5, has 10.33 including a commitment to apply the EPG to their standard variable tariff through to Oct 24.
Thus there is a small saving to July 23 .
Should I accept the free switch or stay on the fix and then assess my options in July 23.
My dilemma is that whilst BG are offering to maintain the current EPG discount the Standard variable my well change before July 23. If so better to stay with the Fix.
Your advice please
regards
Brian

You did notice the recent news that the EPG is likely to stop in April 2023?

Apart from the above you will get a discount on your fixed tariff, in your case you will pay the same for the unit rates,

So you just pay a few penny more for the standing charge, but you will keep your fix in April.

If you stay with the fixed rate tariff, the likelihood is that when the Energy Price Guarantee comes to an end on 31 March, your rates will revert to those you agreed when you started on the fixed rate tariff. These rates are likely to be lower than whatever "price cap" OFGEM set to come into effect from 1 April. I have a fixed rate with E.ON until 2 July 2023, currently with discounted rates to the EPG, but I am not going to change tariff.
