Card Payment and Refunds

Just a quick question about payment to my Barclaycard.

Say for example my statement balance for September is £1000 and I get refunds after this statement is generated and before I make the payment, do these refunds count as payment towards my September statement?

So say i have £200 refunds this week, would I only pay £800 for September? or would them refunds come off October's statement?

Thanks.

Usually not - daft as it sounds.  You still need to make the full £1000 payment.
If this leaves your card substantially in credit you can request a refund of the credit to your bank account.  But for relatively small amounts it's usually easier to just leave it on the card and use it as part of your routine spending.  A credit balance due to a refund doesn't breach the T&Cs in the same way as making a deliberate overpayment to "front-load" the card would.

There may well be some variation according to which credit card it is. However what I've always found is that...

If you have a DD in place for minimum payment then that it still taken. If you have a DD in place for full payment then it is usually reduced by the amount of the refund (depending on the refund being more than 3 or 4 days beforehand).

If you don't have a DD setup then I can't say from experience and would advise contacting the card issuer to ask.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree with you on that point.  There may be cards where it is counted as a payment, but in the vast majority of cases it's classed as an "account credit", which is different to a "payment" for the purposes of "paying off the statement balance" - or even "making the minimum payment".

Unless someone actually has had this on a Barclaycard. Best to confirm with them.

As some do take refunds into account, & others do not. 👍

I did have this on my Barclaycard during summer 2022, my full card payment DD was reduced.
