Cynergy Bank - Account Opening Formalities

Hi,
Just wondered how many hoops people have found they need to jump through opening an account.  I've done the online application, but now they've got in contact wanting a certified copy of my identification, and it needs to be certified by the sort of people or places that charge for the service, as well as meaning around a 30 mile round trip the visit one of these places. Have most people found the same requirements?  I'm sure I saw posts on here where people said they'd opened their account in a few minutes online.

I'm just going to leave it. We had the same with Nationwide, my account opened with no formality but the missus got a letter wanting all sorts, however a week or so later she got another letter confirming the account was open anyway.

I would have done the same - there are plenty of other banks paying similar (or higher) rates than Cynergy so it's not worth the hassle and possible expense of having to provide certified forms of ID if the rate can be beaten by a provider who doesn't ask for that - it does seem to be the luck of the draw though for some, by the sounds of it !

  • My Cynergy account is open right away. Didn't ask for anything. Let it in post 4 days later, account up and running money in.
Santander on the other hand, wanted to know my inside leg measurement 😆🤦‍♀️ So gave up on them.

People who were able to open straight away, were these savings accounts?  I was trying to open a current account, as that seems to be the only way to become a customer in the first place, and thus eligible to open the savings.

    Mine was a cash ISA.

I haven't got any other accounts with Cynergy.

My first account with them was an EA , I now hold fixed terms as well. I dont recall the sign up process being anything other than what it stated it to be and went through as smoothly as was expected. As always a little patience is required
