Radiators paints peeling off - what are my rights?

Hi,

I have bought few radiators from an online retailer six years ago.

The paint is peeling off and they are rusting away - very ugly to see.

I contacted the seller with pictures and invoices/codes of my orders.

The supplier replied that "they want see a full invoice from who installed your radiators with all the work carried out in the invoice. This must be provided by a professional plumber".

I haven't yet found the plumbers' invoice (6 years ago!) - wondering who keeps paper invoices for plumbing jobs these days!

The Radiators are covered by 20 years warranty.

What if I cannot find the invoice - can I challenge the supplier to get a warranty cover?

Many thanks

Few. Most would keep an electronic copy.

Who is the warranty from? Supplier or manufacturers?

The crucial thing here is the warranty and its terms. Do you have a copy?  Assuming the warranty is provided by the manufacturer (why else would the retailer have referred you to them?) If they say that you need what they're asking for before they'll entertain a warranty claim, then it was down to you to have kept the paperwork to maintain the validity of the warranty.  If the information isn't required, and you can satisfy the requirements of the warranty, you can claim on it.

You also need to check exactly what is covered by the 20 year warranty.  It may be a warranty against leaks and nothing else.

From my experience a common cause of this issue is using radiators to dry damp clothes.. could this be the cause? If so it's unlikely to be covered under a warranty.
  • Most warranties (esp 20 year ones) are not unconditional or absolute.

So the question is, what do the terms of the warranty actually say?  Do they say you have to provide an invoice from the qualified plumber who fitted them?
