Possible to move back to Fixed rate?

Hi,
I moved to the price garentee SVT on 14th Sept, from my fix (British Gas Loyalty Jun23v2). The rates are very similar, with SVT being a few quid cheaper per month.

With the unknown of what we'll be paying come April 23, I'd like to move back to my old fixed rate for the certainty for an extra few months (and likely cheaper).

I've called up BG but hit a brick wall - they are not willing to move me back as the 14 day grace period is over.

It's awful being at the will of gov/corps like this, surely there is a way to get back to my fixed rate due to the gov changes? Just wondering if anyone else has similar experience, or managed to get moved back?

Thanks
James

  • I can understand your frustration but the choice was yours notwithstanding the fact that the 'goalposts' have moved.

The only comfort that I can offer is that the EPG will end as we hit Spring so your consumption (and monthly cost) should fall.

The blame for this lies firmly at the door of the elected government. While it would be nice for BG to take a more sympathetic approach, they are caught up in the chaos as well. I would express your dissatisfaction to your MP, they might be able to help, even if not directly, the government and Ofgem could encourage suppliers to be more understanding.
  • As Dolor said - you will probably be using about 75% of your year's energy consumption in the period that you are on the (cheaper) EPG-capped SVT.
