£400 rebate for deceased persons property
My dad passed away in March and his flat is now unoccupied and up for sale.
When I phoned the energy supplier (eon) to give a reading at the end of September the guy could see that there had been no usage since the last reading that was given many months before and said he’d wipe the standing charges and issue a zero value bill.
this was all great to hear, but afterwards I started to wonder what happens to the £400 that the government will be giving to eon for my dads property. Will eon just be pocketing this themselves? That seems a bit naughty if so. I appreciate that the flat is not incurring any costs for energy at the moment and that I’m not really entitled to the £400 myself, but neither are eon. I’d much rather the £400 went back into the government coffers rather than eons pockets.

Who said that the government are giving E.ON anything for this account? Stop assuming stuff is being “naughty” and “pocketed”.
The way these schemes often work is that the suppliers send out the money, then get paid back by the government. If they didn’t pay it out, they don’t get paid it back.0 -
Suppliers have to have a bank account specifically for this money. The government pay the money in the last day of the month preceding payment, so 30 September for October payments. Any money left at the end of June 2023 is returned to the government.Heidiho said:My dad passed away in March and his flat is now unoccupied and up for sale. When I phoned the energy supplier (eon) to give a reading at the end of September the guy could see that there had been no usage since the last reading that was given many months before and said he’d wipe the standing charges and issue a zero value bill.
