New to EV - home charger help

It probably is better for the battery to charge at a lower speed.0

The car can charge at 48kW on a DC charge point, so no point in throttling an AC charger back as charging at 6.6kW won’t effect battery longevity.ididgetwhereiamtoday said:It probably is better for the battery to charge at a lower speed. The only reason you might deliberately do it on a domestic charger is if the overall load for the house could exceed the rating of the main fuse, which should not be the case on a new house. You might also want to do it on an ad hock basis for daytime charging to maximise the use of free electricity from solar panels.1 -
If you have a 100A main fuse, and a 40A RCD feeding the charge point, then there's no reason why you can't charge at up to 32A.Jenni x0

7kW is ~ 30A depending on the voltage so, even with a 40A main fuse it need not be a problem, as long as you don't run anything else high powered at the same time.
I only have a 60A main fuse but never come close to hitting 14kW. My Zappi EVSE has a 'grid limit' setting which would dial back the charging rate to keep it below 60A if required but it's never been needed.
In any case it's worth knowing what rating the main fuse has and whether you're on a 'looped' supply with your neighbours. Your DNO should be able to tell you.0
