I have been trying to ring them for weeks.

Low usage and I have been paying £157 a month and almost £700 in credit and they have ajusted our monthly direct ddebit to £230 ??!! I can't ajust it back online because they want a one off payment of £1000 and can't talk to anyone online or phone as it's impossible. I either get 'all our agents are busy goodbye' and the phone hangs up or online it's just a bot directing you to links.

Is it best to cancel the direct debit now?

It's generally never a good idea to cancel a DD without agreeing to do so with the company first.

Why do SP want a payment of £1000.

What is your annual usage? It's important to know your usage - or at least what SP are predicting you'll use - to see if the payments they are asking for are logical or not.  If they are suggesting you use £230 a month, having £700 in credit isn't insane as most people at this time of year seem to be 2-3 months of payments in credit to cover winter use.

Thank you for your reply, Well I asume that what they are predicting but we don't even use what we've been predicted at £157 a month. I know the winter is coming but we won't be using anywhere near that. I want to keep it at £157 as I can't afford the hike. the only option I have left is to cancel the direct debit and pay my bill each month for what I actually use. My credit is nearly 4.5 months of payments

Do you have a working smart meter or an older meter? How does the data SP have tally with what you think you use? Are SP using actual or estimated usage?

The more actual data you could share the more people here may be able to help.

At the rate of £230 a month which they seem to be suggesting you should be paying your credit is 3 months payments which isn't crazy.

What is the expected annual usage in kwh on your bill?

one option if they offer it is variable dd where you pay by dd just for what you use each month.
