Barclays rewards

I recently opened a Barclays current account and registered for Blue Rewards.  I paid £5000 into the account which I then transferred to Rainy Day Saver.  I received a message yesterday to say that my Blue Rewards were not active as I had not paid £800 into my account. In a telephone conversation I was informed that the £800 every month has to stay in the current account and cannot be withdrawn surely this cannot be correct

No, it's not correct.  You have to pay it in every month, but you don't have to keep it there.  My balance is less than that for most of the month, and I've had Blue Rewards for years.

Was it this email? I got it too, despite upgrading to blue rewards and then transferring £5000 into the account. I figured that maybe their system is broken, but just in case I sent £1000 in from barclays waited a while and then withdrew it.

To remain eligible for Blue Rewards, you need to make sure at least £800 is paid into your nominated current account each month. We've noticed that you haven't done this - and we don't want you to miss out.

What you need to do to stay a Barclays Blue Rewards member
If you think you have paid this into your nominated current account, please make sure you check the following:
Is your money being paid into the right account?
Blue Rewards is linked to one current account only. If your money is paid into a different account you hold with us, this won't count. You can check which account your Blue Rewards is linked to by logging into the Barclays app*, selecting 'Barclays Blue Rewards' on the homepage and checking 'Your Reward Details'. You can always change the linked account here if you need to
Do the payments into your nominated account count towards the £800?
Most of our customers meet the eligibility criteria for Blue Rewards by paying their salary or a pension into their nominated current account each month - transfers from another Barclays personal current account in your name don't count towards the £800 eligibility criteria. For a full list of what counts towards the £800 eligibility criteria, search 'Blue Rewards current accounts' online

    What happens next?
We want you to keep enjoying being a member of Blue Rewards, so we'll still pay any rewards you have earned straight into your Rewards Wallet.

If you continue to pay in less than £800, we'll give you notice that we'll cancel your Blue Rewards. For more details, please see the terms and conditions. If you also have a Blue Rewards Saver account, this will affect your eligibility to hold this, it will be changed to the Barclays instant access savings account with the interest rate specified in our interest rate leaflet and on our website. We'll get in touch separately and you'll receive the terms and conditions for your new account. If you left Barclays Blue Rewards to join Barclays Avios Rewards, you will be able to keep your Blue Rewards Saver.

This is also being discussed here:

The consensus seems to be that Barclays staff and documentation are sending out conflicting messages

However, there doesn't seem to be any doubt that transfers from existing Barclays account do not count towards the £800.

I got the same email. I've disregarded it as being a glitch related to joining partway through a month, perhaps it looks at last month's DD's and incoming payments.
  • Same here.
It looks like everyone got it 🤦‍♂️🤣

Yeah I received this email too despite fulfilling the £800 requirement. I was a bit confused about it and thought it was just a glitch. But glad I’ve seen this thread now.

    The email is worded badly too;

"For a full list of what counts towards the £800 eligibility criteria, search 'Blue Rewards current accounts' online"

There is no such list on their website nor is there a list within the Blue Rewards terms and conditions,
The only list is a list of payments that don't count towards Blue Rewards, as long as your payment into the Barclays current account is not on that excluded list then it will count towards the £800 pay in,.
