Utility Warehouse - Wrong smart meter reading

This is a question and a warning! UW have sent me a bill where they give the smart meter reading as 14789 but (thanks to Martin's advice) I took a photo of the meter on 30 Sep and it says 14670. The question is - how can they get it wrong when the smart meter tells them the units that we've used?? The warning is to double check your bills and perhaps take a few pics of your meter to check it matches up with your bills.
Has anyone else had this?

By the way, the cost according to my meter reading was only £16.
But according to their incorrect reading, they wanted to charge me £50. Three times what it should have been.0 -
You are aware that them overcharging you at the old rate is to your benefit?1
