Warning. BT may charge you more then £70 to cancel a contract.

See their latest T&C which says.

"If you take service on or after 1st May 2007 the charges for ending either a new line or a line that you take over before the end of the minimum period will be the lower amount of either £70 or the total of the monthly line rental left in the minimum period.

41. The charges for ending BT Together Option 2 (b) are:
  • the total of any monthly line rental and BT Together Option 2 (a) charges left in the 18 month minimum period for BT Together Option 2 (b). This charge is £14.45 a month; or,
  • if you upgrade to BT Together Option 3 during the 18 month minimum period, the total of any monthly line rental and standard BT Together Option 3 charges left in the 18 month minimum period for BT Together Option 2 (b). This charge is £18.95 a month.
42. There may be other charges that apply for ending other services "

So if your on Option 2 or 3 or you have other add ons,or services , you will probaly be charged more then £70 to cancel.

Comments

  • If you are likely to leave BT before your contracts up its best to sign up for OPTION 1 only and use

www.18185.co.uk for cheaper peak geographical, mobile, ngn, and intl calls.

Plus Primus Saver 2 http://www.planet-talk.co.uk/SaverProducts.aspx?source=saver for Free Evening and Weekend Geographical Calls.

Neither of these two providers charge a cancellation fee. But note other suppliers can and do block access to 18185,and Primus Saver 2 is only available to BT Customers. So you might be better off staying with BT. Unless you have a short term tenancy.;)
