Use the VM connect app to prove your dead spots, contact Virgin and request they supply some WiFi Pods to extend your WiFi....They may try to charge you, but, stick to your guns they have a WiFi guarantee.

They do charge a monthly fee for that though, unless you're already on one of their top (ie. expensive) packages.
My new router gives a usable 5GHz signal over much of the house. I did also buy a good WiFi adapter for my PC with an external antenna and have gone from a ropey connection from the opposite corner of the house (and a floor up) to a strong 5GHz WiFi connection which frequently gives me 200Mbps, which is what I get at the hub on a cable.
I did change the router to deny a 2.4GHz connection to the PC as I use the same SSID for each frequency and the 2.4GHz signal is slightly stronger but nothing like as fast.
I know 3 people, 2 of which are not on the top tier packages, who had had the same problem and they received them free. A bit of polite persuasion and occasionally the threat to cancel works wonders.

My daughter has two kids, 15 and 12 and they have specific time windows when they can use their computers and that's when they do their homework plus some recreation time.  Both of them have a mobile phone, which has to be left downstairs when they go to bed - no if's or buts.

Same when they come to us or come away on holiday - they aren't allowed unlimited access to the network or their phones. When we are out for the day their phones get locked in the car so they can't wander around like zombies staring at their phones.

The school the fifteen year old goes to has really strict phone rules - anyone found using a phone during the day has it confiscated and it only gets returned to a parent on Friday afternoons, again no ifs or buts.

It works, kids only ever get caught once and the aggro factor of parents having to go and collect it ensures compliance with the rules.

  • I bought a TP-LINK Deco M4 and it was so easy to set up. I have bought similar things before and they haven't helped but this is so much better. I could stream 15 videos at once (useless I know but a test) without problems.
Ping gives max 25 ms average 14ms.
However I have one question I wanted to stop the internet broadcasting from the virgin router so everyone has to connect to Deco so I can enforce parental controls.
  • And one other question Deco gives monthly reports but I think they are very wrong.
My phone says I have used 20Gb in the last month.
According to Deco since Friday I have used 50331648TB of data on my phone which seems very wrong.
    Any ideas?

    Two options:

    1. Put your TP-LINK Deco M4 in router mode and the Virgin Media hub in modem mode.
    2. Switch the wifi off on your Virgin Hub and use the
TP-LINK Deco M4  in access point mode.

Yeah, ignore it, its clearly wrong.  5,0331,648TB is 5 Exabytes aka a billion gigabytes.
If you've seriously burnt through a billion gigabytes in two days then something is very very (x20) wrong.

The Deco M4 according to a Tp-Link forum post did not support data consumption reports as late as 2021 and was still being requested as late as July this year.  The M5 may have it, but can't see anything that the M4 does.

Yes that is what I thought.
