Credit Card For Student Doing Work Placement

    Remember that each time he actually applies for a credit card - a hard search will appear on his credit file. From what you've said he's tried at least twice - so that's at least two hard searches. How many actual applications has he made?

    You may find that if he has a thin credit file, and two hard searches (or more) already - that he might get auto-declined for any further applications so close to the previous ones. 

    He might be better off waiting a few months - and then trying again for the HSBC student credit card option - or one of the credit builder options such as Vanquis, Capital One, Aqua (all of whom have eligibility checkers on their respective websites).
