Didn't want to de-rail the thread, but had to say thanks to all for the supportive comments regarding LG
On a groceries note, the loaf of wholemeal bread we buy from MrL has gone up 4p, now 69p. But they have at least brought the cost of their 12 medium eggs back down to £1.99 - they had gone up to £2.09 - a whole 20p dearer than MrAl! Also, whilst in fArmf00ds the other day, I spotted they had a 12 net of bAbyb3l* cheese for £2. This is the cheapest I have seen them in an age. These weren't a necessary purchase, but with half-term fast approaching, they are a lunchbox treat if we manage to go off adventuring anywhere, so I bought a pack. Fast forward to yesterday morning, mooching around the local co-op waiting for the PO to open, and I saw that they were selling their 12 packs of bAbyb3l for £3.45...........................................What??!!??

* - I fully realise that bAbyb3l's are a contentious food stuff. But a) they are now bought extremely rarely, and are very much regarded as a treat in our house b) at £2 for 12, they are far cheaper than a serving of ice-cream, which seems to average £3 now when out and about, and c) I credit bAbyb3l's with encouraging LG to eat slices of 'whole' cheese, when previously they didn't like cheese and at best would only eat a little grated cheese on a sandwich. LG will now happily eat pieces of cheese, or sliced cheddar on a sandwich - cheddar which comes from the MrL 900g block 99% of the time........Greying_Pilgrim said:Morning!

Oh gosh FrugalHedonist - I hope you are in luck. The one drawback of some of FF's stock is that it is short-dated etc. So whilst there was no 'special' shelf label - it just said 12 x bb £2, they were 'short-ish' dated (relatively speaking, I'm pretty sure it was January 2023). There were also some 6 packs thrown into the same box, so you had to be careful with your selection, and not pay £2 for less product. Needless to say, HT has seen off the bargain bb's in our house anyway!

After totally losing track and definitely going well over budget for October I'm going to try again in November. I need to clear some freezer space for freezing batch cooked meals so it's time to try and get through all the things that have been in there far too long. I should probably make a list of what's in there and formulate a plan to use each thing up but I'm a bit scared to start getting it all out in case it won't go back in again. 😂
Anyway, please can you put me down for £200 for the month?
Thanks Elsiepac for running this thread and to everyone for the support and ideas. Even when I'm not posting or joining in I love reading the thread to see how everyone else is getting on.5 -
Just completed October challenge. Son is coming to stay at end of November and bringing my 3 lovely Granddaughters so I may have cut the budget too fine but we will see. Grocery order from Tesco is placed to arrive on 6th November. Hoping to survive on what I have in apart from bread and milk until then to give me a good start. Still working through the freezer so hoping to batch cook some of the chicken and bacon into tasty meals tomorrow, make some tuna fish cakes next week and we are using up some bubble and squeak with sausages and jacket potatoes today. It’s going to be pot luck, so no meal plan.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £17.98 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

For 2 adults and 2 kids, I need to make it work this month as I have struggled every month this year 😐
reading last months thread I don’t know how people manage to make stuff so cheap?I YS shop, but can’t get there at prime reductions usually. I batch cook and cook from scratch (mostly) … gosh it’s getting tight!Living the simple life6 -
Thank you for the November thread @elsiepac and thank you to all who participate in the challenge. I've reduced my spend by £70 per month through the accountability and the inspiration this thread gives me.
I'm now semi-retired and so I'm going to have a bit more time for meal planning, cooking, olio etc. well that's the theory anyway.
can you put me down for a reduced spend of£250 for November
