Happy Sunday folks. We had our first spend of the month on Friday via a £145.52 Tesco order. I think I kind of had "first of the month" syndrome. 😬 After finishing the last month with not many fun things, I kind of went a bit nuts and bought a bunch of treats. Plus, I had that nesting feeling again. I stocked up on, well... stock – in both cube and paste form – to make lots of soups in the coming months. Tesco was having sales on a lot of different low or zero salt stock cube options so I decided to try them. We got more toilet paper, 12 cans of baked beans for Mr. Jings because he was feeling nostalgic, vegetables, cheeses, crackers, oat bars, fruit, peanut butter, loads of yoghurt, and more. We'll likely just need a vegetable box order next week along with milk.
We also had various types of meat delivered in this order: ground beef; chicken wings, thighs, drumsticks and breasts; also pork belly. I haven't bought chicken breasts in about 3 years, no lie, but wanted to try something different in curries or tacos. I may just bang out a few of them for chicken breast sandwiches or to top salads. Our freezer is full for now but I'll keep an eye out for more beef and pork deals during this month.
A couple boxes of shortcrust pastry also went in the freezer. We've found these to be a good way to use up veg and other items in the fridge at the end of the week. We just make a nice veg / whatever tart and we feel virtuous for getting in a couple more servings of vegetables and reducing waste.
One money saver I decided to buy in this Tesco order were a couple different refrigerated soups. Those will save me ordering lunch delivery this coming week when !!!!!! gets hectic during the work day and I can't be bothered to make up a lunch from various fridge contents.
We'll see the cousins today for a cinema trip and we can discuss the Christmas dinner menu then so we can plan our purchasing for the next couple weeks.
£145.52 spent so far. £204.48 / £350.00 remaining.
Happy early November everyone, from rainy SW Scotland!8 -

Had a get together with friends last night with marshmallow toasting and fireworks, and made a dish to take along but only needed to buy mozzarella for that
Need to do another 'stock take' and meal plan, I've been getting... less enthusiastic about itProgress over perfection9 -

£62.00 spent on tesco order today. DS and family came to visit. The girls enjoyed baking some oat biscuits this afternoon with me. Half a sausage and egg pie, chicken, ham, coleslaw, 3 jacket potatoes, potato salad and lots of salad stuff left from our meal. Lunches and dinners for the next few days will be sourced from the leftovers. Hopefully hob part will arrive on Monday and I will be able to do some batch cooking for freezer to tide us through December and January. Its definitely getting colder since the rain has arrived. Not sure how much longer we can hang on without heating!craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

£110.87/£500 spent this week in various shops, and including a £16 visit to the chippy last night before the fireworks. Got lucky with two great TGTG bags from our local bakery which gave us bread and rolls for packed lunches all week, and more for the freezer.
Went to Waitrose today and saved £9.50 by using an £8 off £40 spend and a £1.50 off cat food voucher on the MyWaitrose app. Have got more £8 off vouchers to use before the 13th - will go again this week and use for foodie Xmas gifts (from a different budget) as the freezers/pantry are groaning!Books read 2023 - 49/757 -
Hi everyone. Happy to be back this month. First spends this past week (in store + online) totaling $150.97. In addition to normal groceries, we made a large purchase of nuts which *may* last us into Dec. They are usually for snacking but lately I've used some in baking so no guarantee on this. Also purchased a black tea called "Breakfast in Paris" for way too much money. I'm not sure why but it just sounded really nice
Early days but I think we'll manage to stay within the budget. Have a good week all!Current budget at $150.97/$525

Hi all, first spend of the month for me yesterday. DD1 was going into town so picked up two milk for me. £3.10 spent. This brings the total spend for the year so far to £2500.39/£2640. Will I make it to the end of the year???. I'll try. As anyone who's read my other thread knows, I have plenty of food in. I am, however, running out of bread, down to the last loaf, and have only a few small onions left. I may need to shop on Tuesday. I do have, if I can get it to work, a £20 Lidl voucher. This will help. See how close I can get to 2023. Hugs, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.10
