Direct debit for switching - charity suggestions

Looking to start doing the account switching merry go round - and looking for some charities suggestions to support in order to fulfil the 2x DD requirement.

Would like smaller organisations, not that bigger ones are unworthy but some have large fundraising departments behind them so may not need my £6/year as much.

Will support for 6-12 months, I like things like cats and education for children 😄

Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

£6 a year, if you're planning to do it by monthly DD, would probably cost the charity more than that in fees and admin.

Why only £6 for a year or less, why not commit to an ongoing amount say £2 a month. You either want to support a charity or you don’t
I think most charities have a minimum amount higher than 50p a month you can pay monthly
  • As someone who regularly donates to charities (and also works for one) ideally, it is best to donate for a period of 2 years if possible. This really makes a difference if the charities can rely on regular donations over a longer period of time as it helps with financial planning and sustainability.

If you want to give to smaller charities have you done a quick google search for ones that are local to you in the areas you would like to support? Cats protection is the main one I can think of but that is a bigger charity than you might be thinking. In terms of children's charities, I personally have supported NSPCC previously and currently give to the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS). There will literally be hundreds of options for you.

Have a think about what specifically you would like to support - is it children in this country or abroad who don't have access to education? Do you want to support children with additional support needs (whether a learning difficulty or a health condition)? etc.

Anything you can give to charity will be helpful, try to keep it going for longer than 6 months though if you can.

50p a month? Almost certainly cost the charity more than that and especially small charities who'll not have the scale to leverage banking fees and system automations etc.

Hi all, thanks for all the suggestions! Very good point about keeping the contributions going for longer/upping it so I will do that.
