See the earlier post “ Per the BoE inflation calculator, goods costing £10 in 1996 would cost £19.70 now” it’s beaten inflation, better than most DB pensions. It’s not a pot of money that can grow more than inflation, or plummet way below. Most people would kill to get an inflation proofed income, it’s a good deal.SVaz said:2.2704 for December 1995 🙁

Anecdotal stories from fellow vets, who retired much earlier and who saw the huge inflationary increases of the late 1970s/early 1980s?QrizB said:SVaz said:2.2704 for December 1995 🙁

Those of us who left with immediate pensions (from age 40 onwards) had the option of term commutation - ie, give up some of our pensions for an additional tax free lump, but the reduction only applied until age 55. The pension, with or without commutation, then flat-lined until 55. At that point, pensions are restored to the pre-commutation value AND index linked back to the date of leaving. Those who left in the 1970s/80s had HUGE increases when they hit 55. Not so much for those of us who left from the late 1990s onwards. No, I am not complaining!3
