I still have my pension letter from when I left. It states I need to keep it.
I can post an image with my info redacted if it helps. There is an address on there. May help you?

When did you leave?  It's just that the contact details you have may no longer be current.  Links to the current address/forms are on page 1 of this thread.

Are you sure?  I used to issue the RAF ones - a folder containing discharge documents, etc, and a brown envelope containing pension information.  No figures at that time - just basic details of the scheme, and stressing that it had to be claimed 3 months before age 60.

I left the RAF in 1996 - my letter states the value of the tfls and the yearly pension.
I’ll be claiming mine in September,  I know I’m going to disappointed, that’s why I haven’t requested a statement, I really didn’t want to dwell on it for a year beforehand.
You would think in 30 years it would be at least 4 or 5 times the original valuation but I bet it’s not even trebled.

    Why would you think that?
Per the BoE inflation calculator, goods costing £10 in 1996 would cost £19.70 now. So an index-linked pension will have roughly doubled.

Nope - not that.  Public sector deferred pensions use the Public Sector PI (Pensions Increase) tables, not BofE inflation figures.

These PI tables use RPI up to April 2011, then CPI after that.

Depending on exactly when you left in 1996 your pension and lump sum will increase by factors between 2.2254 and 2.1699 (plus another 1. 7% each from April this year).

With the exception of 2023 and 2024 the RPI (up to April 2011) and then CPI increases have been relatively small over the past 30 years.

On the plus side, AFPS will continue to pay full, uncapped,  increases on your GMP elements from your State pension age.   GMP is complicated but, trust me, this is a very good thing - and something that most private scheme DB pensioners who reach SPA after April 2016 can only drool over.
