Fitting a Door Threshold Bar?

Hi all,

Wanting to fit a door threshold bar, but not sure on the best way to do it.

We have a concrete floor. No damp proof membrane (1955 bungalow).

Got this threshold bar from B&Q… but the instructions are a bit whack. I think it is suggesting you can either use the adhesive strips, or use the huge 45mm screws into the ground in conjunction with the adhesive strips. Is drilling into the ground really okay to do?

Thanks.

They aren't screws, they just hammer in. Drilling your floor should be fine (as long as you don't have underfloor heating), may be hard going with a standard hammer drill. You could use a smaller size drill first to make life easier. Best would be an SDS drill if you can borrow one.

those thresholds are crap. thin MDF crap, unless the floor you are fitting them to is 100% flat and the fixings are all rock solid then it'll probably get cracked very soon, if you ever manage to fit it properly
I use metal threshold like this, or real wood versions like this

This is an aluminium bar actually. Might be alright!

But, is it essential to drill into the floor for this to stay in place? Are the adhesive strips not good enough?

IMO sticking it down will not last. I always drill small holes and use small yellow wall plugs.

Never had any success with adhesive strips. Those push in fixings work well. You drill the holes then slide the fixings into the slot on the threshold bar, so the only tricky bit is lining them all up to fit it. A gentle tap down (protect the surface) and it's done. Unlikely to be any long term issues drilling a few small holes in the floor
