Energy rebate billing
Hi,
I have just received my 6x monthly review bill from EDF. It is showing the first (October 2022) energy rebate payment as a payment refund as opposed to credit. I thought the payment was a non-refundable grant? The way I have been billed means I will still end up paying for the energy equivalent to the rebate amount, just at a later date. All it’s effectively done is reduce what I have paid out (the energy cost stays the same), which has taken my account into debit. If this is correct then the whole thing is a complete farce (how do I opt out?) or is EDF in the wrong and has billed incorrectly?
I have googled and cannot find the answer and wanted to be informed before speaking to EDF, hence my question here.

Be patient and it will be credited to the bank account that paid the DDNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Apologies, my mistake, the discount is buried in the figures further down the bill. There is no column to clarify this; the total simply being £66 less than the sum of the amounts for gas/electricity used. Now it makes sense.Poor billing structure IMO.0

Interestingly, have been charged VAT on full amount, not discounted total, so rebate is effectively 5% less than advertised!0

Of course you are paying VAT on the full amount.
The £67 are not a discount to the bill, they are a payment towards the bill.0 -
ovo did the same thing which i think has confused some people. i'm guessing because this is a new thing they had to add it to the system where they would normally apply credit for things like GSS payments (for if they don't turn up to a sheduled appointment). if it was going on for longer than 6 months they'd probably rework the form for it to be more clear.jeanniew said:Apologies, my mistake, the discount is buried in the figures further down the bill. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1 -
I doubt that any energy supplier has built Government rebates into to its billing software which is why suppliers are having to adopt different ways of doing it.jeanniew said:Interestingly, have been charged VAT on full amount, not discounted total, so rebate is effectively 5% less than advertised!2 -
Now December and I have the same problem with my EDF statement. The statement shows a “refund” which thus reduces my payment and shows me as underpaid. This then generates an automatic request for an increased monthly payment.
the bottom line is that I have effectively not received the Government’s Energy Scheme payment, EDF have.0 -
Check page 2 where you will see the credits added.Warren_D said:Now December and I have the same problem with my EDF statement. The statement shows a “refund” which thus reduces my payment and shows me as underpaid. This then generates an automatic request for an increased monthly payment.
