Missed direct debit

We switched our current account from Halifax to Santander last month. Unfortunately it seems Halifax missed off a direct debit for a loan Ive had with them for some years now.
I was only made aware of this when Halifax text me to say I was behind on my loan.
I have since paid this as it was a week overdue.
Santander advised me to contact Halifax as they have no loan direct debit details. Everything else has been switched over.

As I don’t want this to impact my credit file (late payment) what’s the best way to approach this with the bank and can they amend my credit file if needed.

I am speculating but is there a possibility that the payment from your Halifax current account to your Halifax loan was never technically set up as a DD, but as some sort of an internal Halifax transfer? What do the T&Cs for the loan say?2

Maybe the switch was made because the attraction of a golden handshake became irresistible.driver24ian said:We switched our current account from Halifax to Santander last month. A very recent forum post suggests millions of main current account switches are trouble free. The OPs experience shows the opposite, and that it's wiser to use a burner account.
It's doubtful the file can be ammended as the late payment actually happened.
The speedy settlement reduces the effect and is not the end of the world.
The CRAs may accept an explanatory note being added to your file if applying for a mortgage etc in the near future.

Complain to Halifax for not doing what they should have.
No such thing as inter Bank transfer that daliah suggests.
Was on a DD or was it CPA (debit card)?0 -
I don't know what you think @Daliah has suggested but it's certainly not an inter bank transfer. She has said, almost certainly correctly, that the payment to the Halifax loan was an internal transfer from the OP's Halifax current account. This type of transfer definitely exists and if it's available within Halifax they would use it rather than a DD as it would be massively cheaper for them. I very much doubt if such a transfer is part of CASS so it wouldn't have got set up on the new Santander account, that would have needed to be done by a separate process.penners324 said:No such thing as inter Bank transfer that daliah suggests.

What is it that Halifax failed to do?penners324 said:Complain to Halifax for not doing what they should have.

How do you know that there is no internal Halifax process to pay off a Halifax loan from a Halifax current account?0 -
It sounds like it wasn't actually a Direct Debit but a book payment processed internally by Halifax. What exactly was the wording on the loan payment pre CASS, did it say Direct Debit?30+ years working in banking0

The best thing to do is to complain to Halifax that they didn't transfer the loan payment across and now through no fault of your own you will get a late marker.driver24ian said:As I don’t want this to impact my credit file (late payment) what’s the best way to approach this with the bank and can they amend my credit file if needed.
They might argue that the type of payment used to service the loan, isn't part of an account switch. My response to that would be, that I thought it would be covered by the current account switch guarantee and Halifax should have informed me when they received the request to switch, if it wasn't..
If they try to fob you off then say you want to raise it as a complaint, they might cave.. or they might come back and say they hadn't reported the late payment yet anyway.
Next time keep more of an eye on the payments going out & then you'd be in a stronger position.
