I am in the process to replace Mountfield R 28M Ride-on-Mower Belt as engine works but its not rotating the blades .
I did research to understand part number to order it but now getting confused with Part number.
My understanding was Mountfield R 28M got only one belt, but part list shows 2 similar belts unable to identify which one is to order!
As I mentioned issue is engine is working and and mower moves but the blades are not rotated I found belt which is tapered cross section is damaged and its not rotating the pulleys that it should move to get blade rotate.
When I looked at part list it mentioned 2 belts, now which one i should be ordering..?
Confused which one i need to order now..? Please help Thanks

It's a bleedin' 'mare. And, when you do find the right part, you'll get charge silly money for what is a standard drive belt - some are asking around £50 for this! Nuts.I'd guess that it's the latter belt - as it appears to be driving the 'deck' and not the transmission (the 'mission will be the wheels, presumably). Some of the sales partic's show the belt's dimensions, so that could be another way to go - get it from eBay according to the belt size.Or, this co sells them for around £20 - fairly reasonable in the scheme of things. And they also have an email addy to confirm that it's the actual belt you need: https://www.allmowerparts.co.uk/mountfield-1328h-deck-drive-belt-2015-2021-replaces-part-number-1350614230g-48118-p.asp

Perhaps a silly question...but at this time in the year, do you not have the luxury of time to remove the old belt, so that you can measure it and buy a generic belt of the same size? Or better still, take the belt along to your nearest mower repair place and ask for a belt "like this".1

That isn't normal wear and tear. A new one might look very similar very quickly if you don't fix the underlying problem first.1

I've seen old belts that look like that, so I'm not conviced that you have any greater problem than an old worn drive-belt. If a replacement shreds after a while, then you may have to look deeper into the issue, but for now, I'd just replace the belt and listen carefully for any noise of mis-aligned or loose pulley-wheels or bearings.
And if you take the belt to the parts counter of the repair shop, they will have seen enough old belts to be able to pass comment on whether it is typical wear, or if not, suggest likely causes/fixes.2 -

I'd suggest a good method could be with a non-stretchy tape such as 'masking'. Wrap it around the outside, mark the overlap, peel it off, replace it when halfway done to ensure it hasn't stretched, and continue to remove. If it has stretched, then replace it again when it's been almost fully removed, and remark the overlap. When you remove it again, there 'should' be little additional stretch, and the tape will anyway be less sticky. Measure the tape length.
Then examine the belt edge along its widest (out) side. Does this widest part have wear on its two sides? Ie, do you think the WHOLE belt may have worn in to the 'V'-groove of the pulley? Or, can you see a wear ridge just under that outside widest part?
Anyhoo, measure the max width carefully, and note wear as suggested.
Finally (tho' it's often not referred to), measure the thickness of the belt, at a point that's least damaged.
Let us know these measurements, and ideally some close-up pics of the belt at its best part, side-on, focussing on the top edge area.
From what you say, this IS clearly the blade/deck drive belt.1 -
Q - when you try and spin the unbelted blade by hand, does it turn easily and smoothly?
(Of course, I don't know if it has a brake on it when it's not running?)1
