Halogen heater question

My mother has a 1.2kw halogen heater that runs on three 400 watt bulbs that work independently so she can run one, two or three bulbs at any one time.

She is constantly turning it off and on because she says the room gets too hot. As the bulbs are replaceable, would it be possible to replace the bulbs with ones 230 watts or 120 watts or a mixture so one would be 400watts, one 230watts and one 120 watts?

These bulbs cost £1 each and as her electricity is 52p per kwh, would she also get a significant saving on her electric bill?

I would suggest getting an electric heater with a thermostat that will maintain a set temperature in the space. Without a thermostat you will never get away from turning it on and off manually. I think oil filled electric radiators are the most comfortable, but can also get convection air heaters.

Will cost more than the bulbs but could save money longer term by not overheating the room.

@thropeSomeone suggested trying one (or two) of these thermostatic tube things as a a replacement. What do you think?

I certainly will be looking to buy this Sylvania lower 230 watt bulb. I think these little heaters are great .Instant heat and not fixed to a minimum of very expensive 1000 watts . If Truss had not intervened it would have been 51 p for a 1000 watts  and 70 p in January.
. Its absolutely no effort at all to switch a bulb off and on as the controls are right on the top of the heater .
Waiting around for hours for some oil filled expensive to run heater is hopeless for me , I ve tried them .First the thing has to heat the oil up then it has to permeate its way through a metal casing . Its too slow .
For me personally I just need quick heat directly heating me, not the whole room , as I m in and out of the house throughout the day .

OP - the lamps you are quoting are halogen lamps for floodlights rather than the infra red type needed for a heater.

    These are probably more appropriate:

I doubt the room is getting too hot, more like she is getting too hot from the focussed radiant heat you get from those things.

Heated throw sounds much cheaper and safer.

I doubt a thermostat would work they way you want, these heaters won't directly heat the air.
