A lot of people do like to wait but if you take a look on the Nationwide switch thread there are replies from forum members who have spoken to Nationwide - they say that any active direct debit will count and by active Nationwide count any DD that shows on the account i.e. it's not necessary for the payment to have been taken. Hopefully that holds true.

I hope so! took me ages to set up the dd's and I was impatient to get the switch going!

I have a query related to this thread. I set up 2 direct debits on an account in order to switch it to nationwide. They both appear to be set up i.e., they are listed in my direct debits but the 1st payment on each dd is not due yet.
I have already initiated the switch but reading some of the replies on this thread, I now wonder if I should have waited until after the first payment?

I switched a donor account to Nationwide, only one of the two DD was taken before the bonus was paid, the second one was my phone bill which was taken after they paid it, I changed the DD back again to my main account after. Both were active in the sense of being paid regularly
  • Hi. I switched to Lloyds and took their £150 this was completed on 31/10. I then switched to nationwide which completed on 10/11 and I received my £200 today (11/11) no direct debits came out of my week long account with Lloyds. So please do not be put off by the word "active" it merely means a direct debit which is in use and not dormant, ie, mortgage, council tax, energy, insurance, broadband, mobile etc etc. I am now going to switch to HSBC which will make it £550 gained from switching in the space of a month before I go back to my original Bank. Hope this helps anyone who is concerned with the word "active"
