Government £400 energy grant on gas
Hi,
I read somewhere this morning about people requesting the £400 energy grant put on their gas bill instead of electric or split..
I'm just wondering what the advantage to having the grant put on the gas is and if its actually worth it? we're also on Octopus Go so do things like washing and charging car in off peak hours so our peak consumption is usually around 4- 6KWH but having 2 young kids the gas it getting hammered already.

Crediting the gas would make it better / easier for me but the process is based around electricity and I can't see that changing. There are a fair few other quite common arrangements eg Park Homes for which I don't think anything has been specifically proposed and these i ama sure will take priorityNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

No advantage at all to most people, and also not possible for many.
Quite useful for people with prepayment meters if they don’t think they’ll use the credit fast enough on electricity.
Nothing stopping you taking the money refunded (or not taken) by your electricity supplier and paying it to your gas account though.0 -
Do you have one supplier for your energy, what difference would it make?0

I'm on duel supply with Octopus. I believe they are doing it. We are on a monthly direct debit.I didn't see any point in it myself to be honest but i just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing anything. We're already spending £4-£5 a day on the gas and we're not in winter yet and so any potential saving is a saving.0

I am with Octopus too and they send a monthly bill for both gas and elec, the £66 is added to the bill for us. While legally it goes on the elec, when you have duel fuel, with one supplier, and one bill it's pointless trying to ask for it to go on the gas, as its not possible, lol.
I was with Iresa in the past (before they went bust) and they sent a bill for elec, and a bill for gas, so two bills per month and two accounts. I can see why someone may want it on the gas then, but that's it

If you're on dual supply what difference does it make? Genuinely curious as I can't see the differencepiperm87 said:I'm on duel supply with Octopus. I believe they are doing it. We are on a monthly direct debit.g.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
The EBBS payment is being administered through electricity accounts simply because most people have an electricity account but not all people have a gas supply. How people use the money is a personal choice. It is just slightly more difficult if consumers have separate electricity and gas accounts.CanNeverThinkOfAUsername said:I am with Octopus too and they send a monthly bill for both gas and elec, the £66 is added to the bill for us.
