BW Legal / PRAC / Eon legal letter requesting payment for outstanding elc/gas bill from 2017
Hi all, i recently received a letter from BW Legal, via PRAC, stating that they had purchased the outstanding debt of £80 which I owed Eon for a house i used to live in in 2017. They had apparently found me using a soft search (as i've moved house 3 times since). However when i checked clear score, it shows no searches at all done against me?
They said I should only deal with them (BWL) direct and that if I pay up quick, they are offering a discounted price of £20 to settle the outstanding debt.
This all seems a little strange to me....
The previous address and details they give all seem correct, and the timeframe they give would be my last bill before I moved out of the house. But i just think if youve bought the debt value of £80 (obviously for a lot less then £80), by the time youve done all this searching and sent the letters, your not getting much payback from £20 settlement fee...
It makes me think is it a scam to just scare you into paying £20 etc...
I tried to contact Eon myself to check whether or not there was an outstanding amount on my account, but I just cannot make contact with them. You sit for hours on hold with no answer, I've tried the whatsapp contact, nothing.
Any ideas?

For £20, do you want all the hassle/stress?0 -

Thanks, it was more just checking that i wasnt being scammed. I'd have liked to confirm the debt with Eon, but simply cannot get through to them. As you say, for £20 prob not worth my time anyhow.

If you have your doubts that the debt is yours, regardless of how much it is for, don't pay it. You can open up all sorts of issues by accepting liability for debts that aren't yours to pay! I had same problem with bw legal but I never used eon apart from the 2 week cross over when I moved into my new property. They said I owed e on over £1000 it took several emails to e on and my own provider to sort this out but e on eventually sent me an email stating I wasn’t liable and bw legal b closed the case only to receive a letter yesterday about 10 months later from a different debt recovery company LCS is this a scam !0
