Makes sense. Thank you.0

Waterpumps have always been weak on these engines. Lots were changed under warranty when the Aygo was first launched.1

Can't believe the difference in my wee car. So glad coming into winter that there is actual heat in seconds!0

If the car is less than 10 years old, less than 100,000 miles and has had a Toyota service in the last 12 months this matter will be covered by warranty.
whats wrong with belt in oil?

whats wrong with belt in oil?Ask the people who have themapart from the belt swelling when it soaks up the oil it runs in, the belt sheds material directly into the oil, which somehow bypasses all the filtration and clogs various important feeds, like the vvt solenoids and turbo feed (if there is one).Changing a belt in oil, (which is a service item if swell/shedding don't initiate it sooner) costs thousands rather than the hundreds of a simple exposed cambelt, or the zero of a properly designed chain system (something Vauxhall, BMW and Honda have yet to master)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Took it to a different garage that was highly recommended by someone I trust.
Timing chain had stretched. Mechanic was able to lift it off with one finger! Absolute miracle that it hadn't gone and taken the engine with it.
Got that fixed, plus other jobs. Filters, oil change, water pump and few other bits. All done plus MOT for £580.
Compared to the bill I could have been looking at, I think I got away lightly.
Strange that when I drove it today, the heater worked so well compared to normal, which is great coming into winter. Maybe it's because of the filters being changed.
As always, very grateful to yiu all.
Perhaps in future run it in to him and ask him for a basic service and quick check over before your future MOT's.
Don't skip on the oil and filters and a decent aftermarket cam chain should last longer than the original.0 -

The mechanic said that Toyota had to change it and would charge about £2k. He said that the only other option was to drive it til it died then change the engine at a cost of around £1k.
Does anyone know if this is correct? I'm going to ring Toyota. I've just been working really intense days at the minute so haven't had the chance to get through when I was free.0 -
This is why I spoke to local people whom I trust and got a recommendation as I was almost sure that letting a timing belt or chain snap was madness. I've spoken to a friend whose cousin owns the garage where I was told that. Asked him to tell the owner (who is a really decent guy and has done work for me before) about the rubbish diagnosis and advice that I was given by his colleague, which could have cost me a lot.
I've only had the car just over a year and from what this new, good mechanic has found, whoever had it before has not maintained it properly before. It's driving nicely now, and I will definitely be taking it to this guy from now on.0 -

Did you really say that to someone? You come accross as a really "nice" person!
