What is the point of saving energy?
I just got my letter from SoEnergy regarding my discount; so far so good.
This means that for the next 4 months I shall be paying about £15 less than last year and on par with 2 years ago.
I have a ton of coal, plus wood to burn, but what is the point of using it now? Should I not save that for when there is no £400 on offer, or better still, for when there is no cap?

which is cheaper per kilowatt the fuel for the stove or the energy on the cap? you get the 400 on your account anyway so that could be used now or later and shouldn't really be part of the workings i don't think.
for us it's close because the stove heats a smaller space (which is a lifestyle thing as we tend to gather in the lounge when the stove is lit but spread out int he house when the central heating is on)Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
At this moment in time I suspect the gas is cheaper. If I used no gas for heating I would save, say £40-50 a month. Should prices go back up, i could save in excess of £100/month with the same technique. Maybe I should wait for February when the £400 end and maximize savings.
At this moment I feel demotivated to do much, and I am sure plenty of people feel the same, meaning that power cuts are .ore likely...

The point of energy saving is to save money and/or protect the environment. Sounds like you're well organised and have things covered anyway, so if you don't need the £400 to support the household budget a great thing to do would be to donate it to a charity like The Trussell Trust. Or maybe treat yourself to something nice with half the money and give the other half to a charity of your choice?

To me it makes sense to save the wood/coal for power cuts if they happen, even if you don't use it for years.
