Energy bill discount

Hi,

We are currently renting a property whilst we are looking for a property to buy. We pay our electricity bill to our landlord each month. We have a 'slave' electricity meter in the cottage and pass on the reading to him. He then bills us accordingly. We would be grateful to know how we receive the £400 energy bill discount, as nothing seems to have been promulgated by government to cover our circumstances.

Many thanks.

Much as it sucks I'd advise working on the assumption that you won't get this money, and view it as an unexpected bonus should things turn out differently.

Depending on your relationship with your landlord you may choose to ask them about splitting the support they'll get but know you have no legal right to be given this.

Do they charge a daily standing charge or do you only pay for the units used?

  • We pay for the units and also a daily standing charge. The landlord is charged 51.52 p/day by the energy supplier and we pay 50% of this. It's split 50/50.
  • You’re not eligible for that £400 rebate.  The landlord will be, and can choose to pass some of it on if they wish, but there is no obligation or expectation that they will.

There is talk of something similar for people in your situation, but it’s not very clear what that is and when it will happen.
