Assuming they will lower her debt with it so she will get it if she then owes less

She will surely get it as a credit to her account, so coming off the debt?
  • As long as she has a domestic electricity account in her name, she will get the £400 rebate over the next six months.

I also seem to remember something that says they can’t use it all to pay down debt automatically, only a part of it, but I can’t find the reference immediately.

It doesn’t mean that she will get £400 cash in her bank though.

is she a standard credit customer or smart pre payment?

according to martin's list they are crediting those customers accounts with the 400.

i know edf have said the credit will be used to clear debt so if eon are the same she will still 'benefit' as she will owe eon 400 less than she otherwise would have by the end of winter. she just can't have it refunded to her bank account to spend on something other than energy.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

As a fellow Eon Next customer information they provided me stated that they would credit my account with the £66/£67 per month I'm paying monthly by Direct Debit, which they have done.
If your daughters paying by other means the terms will be different.

What happens if I am in debt to my supplier?
Your supplier should reduce the payment in accordance with your debt repayment plan. If you don’t have a debt repayment plan agreed, contact your supplier to discuss this.

Does not sound as if the £400 cannot be used for repayment of debt.

I just seem to remember that it "should not" completely used against an existing debt, but cannot find the source at the moment.

if some of it is used for historic debt and some is used for that months bill then it's not being completely used. but i can see why the op still wouldn't be able to have it back into the bank account as it would all be used one way or another for their energy.
