Concrete Garage - replace or refurb

We have a concrete sectional garage which is a little the worse for wear, the window and side door (wooden) have had it and the up and over door on the front is knackered. It has a corrigated asbestos roof, there are gaps in between the concrete sections and water gets in under the sides. There is also wood around the top which needs replacing and the guttering is mostly broken.
I am wondering if my summer project should be to refurb it or to replace it.
The refurb would involve:
- UPVC side door and window (secondhand off ebay probably)
- New up and over door on the front
- Some how reposition the concrete sections to close up the gaps
- UPVC to replace the wood round the top
- New guttering
- Replace the asbestos roof with something (don't really know what possiably corigated plastic or metal)
- Somehow stop the water leaking under the sides.
Or alternatively I could just get it taken down and replaced with a new wooden or concrete garage.
Has anyone else refurbed a concrete garage?
Any opinions or advice welcome!
Ed

i wouldnt bother with all the problems you have listed. even diy would be fairly expensive for materials alone.
theres a chap near me who advertises new concrete garages, assembled on your base for 999 quid.
you would obviously have to factor in the cost of demolishing yours (diy?) and a skip to remove it.
or a few trips to the tip?Get some gorm.0 -
It all depends how big the garage is. If Ormus's mate supplies a single for that price but the one in question is a double for example, then it may not be good value.
It also depends on the quality.
Having said that if the existing base can be reused.....Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
I have the same problem (double garage). Have fitted roller shutter car doors some time ago. Mrs E had problems using the old up and over door and couldn't get auto gear to fit up and over because of shallow roof pitch. Looking to replace roof, like yours corrugated fibre (not asbestos) cement sheeting with sheet metal next summer. How old is your roof? It it is asbestos it will be expensive to dispose of. Unless it is very old it probably isn't asbestos. Our pedestrian door is non standard size so I will have to have one made. Our garage is 1987, a replacement for an earlier one destroyed in the big storm of that year. Just can't face the chaos of replacement again.
If I replaced I think I would look at wood rather than concrete again. Concrete seems to get a lot of condensation.0 -
If you end up replacing it I'd recommend trying to sell it on ebay - you might find someone who would pay you for the priviledge of taking it down and away!0

Or even freecycle if you cant sell it.
Certainly wouldn't consider trying to do it up!
& even if finances a bit tight now, if you dont need the actual garage for car/storage, you've still got a parking space & you could put a new one up, in tyhe future.
Have you thought of timber construction, insead. Seen lots ads for them - no idea cost/ease of building.
