The last review of that product on the AO product page addresses your query now let alone in 10 years time

AO customer review from 30 September 2022

"Amazing Fridge, bought due to Smart Family hub, otherwise same fridge from Samsung without family hub is available for half the price. Not 5 star because apps there are constrained, half of Apps promised are not working in UK (seems like working in US from YouTube views). Coincidentally Alexa started working yesterday after the overnight update (first in UK). It is a big tablet, but will do only 10-20% of what real world tablet can do. Samsung should have open the whole tablet eco system on it in terms of apps running and other functionalities."

Why would you want a tablet built into your fridge? Appliances should have a life of over 10 years. Within a few years, the tablet will be obsolete and updates will no longer be released.

Buy a normal fridge and spend a little bit of the money you've saved on a tablet and stand if you really want one in the kitchen.

Tablets tend to run like a snail because of two factors:

    1) Apps/OS are updated to make use of higher technology in newer models

    2) Batteries degrade and cannot provide peak power and so processors go into a limp mode as to preserve the battery health (or if this can be disabled then errors become come common due to lack of power requiring repetition or crashes)

Item two wont be an issue because it has no battery.

For item 1 it really depends on what OS/Apps its running and if these are even updatable... my assumption is that it is a closed ecosystem and so you wont see much change over time and so the bigger risk is if any third party sources stop supporting the apps.

    Yes then...

Agree. I think it'll be dreadful in just 5 years.

Personally, I think it will be more like a digital camera... it will feel more dated over time and some ancillary services will stop working but the core functions will be the same as they are now. My first dSLR was great, it still works and creates jpgs but compare them to my current dSLR and they look poor by comparison. It had the ability to transfer photos directly to some online repositories but at least two of those dont work now (one ceased to exist and the other changed its protocols).

I am not the greatest fan of "smart" home appliances however being part way through redoing our kitchen a fair number of items have been replaced and to get the features I wanted they happened to be smart. Its kind of useful that the dishwasher sends a message to say its out of salt or rinse aid as it saves checking or you can see how long is left on the drier from the comfort of the sofa but they are all features I could live without.

I can somewhat see the advantage of remote access camera in the fridge... you're in the supermarket and cannot remember if you need milk or not so can remote in and see your other half bought a new 6 pinter on their way home. Not convinced the views are going to be that good if the fridge is fairly full and that doesnt require the big tablet on the front.

I don't go to the supermarket without checking what's in the fridge so I'm not sure that it has a lot to offer me! I guess if the "smart" bit stops working then it'll still work fine as a fridge but it just seems to be unnecessary kit to appeal to people who love gadgets.

Me, I'm a bit of a traditionalist. My Watson camera still works great, and takes good photos (subject to the person behind the shutter). If something goes wrong with it, it is easy to repair, and I can still get film for it.
Fridges do not need gadgets stuck to the door. Especially ones with a limited life span.
