Another suggestion is to offer the screwdriver up to the screw and give the screwdriver a few sharp whacks with a hammer before trying to unscrew. The shock just might break the screws grip.0 -

Screws successfully removed using the suggestion from @cymruchris at the grand total cost of £3.50.Thanks for all the suggestions, it's interesting that there are so many possible ways of attempting to achieve the same result.0
