  • The difference in cost will be the difference in the two unit costs times the number of units.

Suppliers are required under their Licence Conditions to use any reading provided by the customer. If the reading fails the validation process, they should ask for another reading.

Condition 21B. Billing based on meter readings

21B.1 If a Customer provides a meter reading to the licensee that the licensee considers reasonably accurate, or if the Electricity Meter is read by the licensee, the licensee must take all reasonable steps to reflect the meter reading in the next Bill or statement of account sent to the Customer.

21B.2 If the licensee considers that a meter reading provided by a Customer is not reasonably accurate, the licensee must take all reasonable steps to contact the Customer to obtain a new meter reading from him.

    Hi TransmitThis

Just to be clear, even though you tried to submit a real reading of 14780 on the 30th, because this was lower than their estimate of 14786, it wouldn't let you submit it. That is some crazy system! If you stopped using gas altogether, you could never submit a reading.

Never assume that any system is infallible, especially if it relies on 'wetware'.

My gas was capped off for a few weeks so I know it can cause issues with readings. A friend of mine had an electrical fire in his kitchen so the gas meter was shut off and capped by the network engineer. When he submitted two readings showing no increased usage, his supplier unleashed their fraud team who refused to accept his explanation or any evidence. As far as I know, this is still ongoing.
