Cause of snapped wheelstud?

Just curious as to what causes wheel studs to snap.
This is a works vehicle, so no money involved. It has happened four times, in less than twelve months.
It's on a VW Crafter, same wheel every time. They did say that they replaced all the studs when this happens.
It first happened when a tyre fitter was trying to unscrew nuts, now just keeps happening.

Probably caused by over tightening. There is a specific torque they should be tightened to but they don't bother. Normally the customer pays for their incompetence.

I would go to a more competent tyre fitter.

They won't snap immediately of course. A decent tyre fitter my well snap a bolt or wheel-stud that was over-tightened by someone else many months before.

Just keep your car away from all tyre fitters and you will be fine. It doesn't really matter to the customer which tyre fitter wrecked your car.

I bought tyres through Black Circles and used the fitters they recommended, who I had not used before. They took the wheel nuts off with a rattle gun, but when putting them back asked me what the torque settings were, checked this in a book, and then used a torque wrench and hand pressure to put them back on. I have used them ever since.
