Who changes their own oil & filter

Just curious as it's such an easy but crucial job. Bought the oil & filter (£30) but just need to find the motivation. The old oil can be fed into the landfill (back to where it originated) bin over a couple of weeks or help fire up the incinerator.🙂

***just need to find the motivation.***If you take it into the local dealer they will charge you £150 - pay yourself out of the wifes housekeeping and have a night out on the savings1

They should have a tank you pour it in and it is disposed of properly rather than polluting the landfill site.Yes I change mine on the spare car and my motorbike, the New Car has to go for an expensive stamp on the service book to keep the value so they do it.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Why wouldn’t you do your own? It takes about 15 minutes on my Focus.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare1

Nope.
I've a good local indy who does all that sort of stuff for me at a reasonable cost.

I haven’t changed the oil in my cars for years, I tend to have newer cars so need to keep the service at the dealer for the warranty and service records0

No, you can't just put it in the landfill. That oil contains chemicals from the combustion process, some of which are highly carcinogenic, and which will ultimately end up in the water supply if you do as you propose.dipsomaniac said:Just curious as it's such an easy but crucial job. Don't be lazy, take it to the council tip and dispose of it legally and responsibly.7 -

Do the job properly or not at all - dispose of it legally and responsibly.7 -
Main servicing these days I tend to get an independent specialist to do as it will help retain the value. I have just last weekend changed the brake pads and disks all round as doing that myself has no negative impact on the resale side in the future and I don't see the point in paying someone to do something that I can do myself and has no negative impact by doing so.
Used to do all the servicing including oil changes when i was younger with less valuable cars where showing the invoices for the parts was as good as showing a stamp in a book when it came to value.1 -
You also need a new crush washer, unless you have a drain tap on the oil sump.dipsomaniac said:Just curious as it's such an easy but crucial job. I used to do all my own maintenance in the street - taught by my father. Too old and lazy now, plus the car has a service contract.
My daughter does her own oil and stuff in her car.
I guess it depends on the car, warranty etc.
Oil to the recycling centre, not landfill. Although one of my near neighbours drains his sump over a street drain 😲1
