End of Car Lease Charges for Service history

So I have just returned my lease car after 2 years and have found out that the lease company want to charge me 400 pounds stating that because the garage didn't stamp the service book they are assuming that the car was not serviced. I have sent them evidence from the garage that it was serviced but the garage do not do manual stamps any more.

The lease company are still insisting that despite the evidence that it has been serviced they will still charge me for two services. I have opened an official dispute on this I think this is extreme nitpicking given the fact that due to me changing to a full time job from home role since getting the car it has less than half the miles that was originally contracted.

The lease company seems to be out of touch.

My last 4-5 cars have all had the service record held by the manufacturer on computer. No stamps required.

With my current car (Audi) I can see the service record on line. Is that a possibility with your car?

What makes you say garages do not do manual stamps anymore? If there is a specific section in the service book to do so then many brands do still stamp the books (may have to request it). Some manufacturers don't have spaces in their manuals any more for stamps and it is online only.

It sounds like the service book does have spaces for the stamps if they are saying they are missing

It does sound like nit picking if the service invoices have been supplied, but it may also have been one of the terms of the lease to get it done.

Not sure what the mileage has to do with it as they will be two unrelated contract terms, but good luck with the appeal, hope they compromise.
  • Well the reason i mention the mileage is purely because they will probably be able to sell this car for FAR more than they had anticipated, especially given the explosion in used car prices since I started this lease. So its a bit petty to nitpick over this.

I guess technically I should've checked whether stamps were needed. But I honestly can't remember the last time I did get a service stamp. My last 2 cars certainly didn't get physical stamps (Skoda and VW) and the dealership that did the service said they never stamp service books any more. As mentioned they have since been provided with evidence of the servicing so they cant complain that the car is missing service history. If they want me to pay a slap on the wrist charge for not following the exact rules that they wanted of like £100 then fair enough but Essentially paying for the services again is too much.

Just get the garage to stamp the book. If they won't for some reason, then just put in the details and a squiggle.

My last 2 cars have always had the service book stamped. My new car hasn't yet had a it's service yet so can't compare this one.

Would have definitely done this if the car hadn't gone by the time they pulled me up on this

Does sound like nit picking so be prepared to fight your corner. They'll likely only accept a copy invoice from a VAT registered garage though?  Mine has electronic service book, so no stamps, but the lease co still want a hard copy of the service invoice
May seem unfair, but the value of the car with less mileage is irrelevant - the market may be on their side at the moment, but there have been plenty of occasions when it hasn't and they'd lose money, but you wouldn't expect a bill for that - that's the risk/reward they take trying to predict future values.
