Business Energy confussion
Despite all my best efforts, I still cannot get a clear understanding of what the best way to proceed is with our business energy contract with British Gas. We are currently on a fixed rate that expires end of this month. British Gas has said they will write to me to explain options but not heard from them as yet.
Also U Switch have told me that if I do not enter into another contract with someone, we will not receive as much of a discount on our energy rate. Is this right??
So worried about entering into another fixed rate contract with the rates as high as they are and then being punished after this duscount ends because prices will fall. Any guidance or thoughts would be gratefully received. Thank you.

You'll still be on contract with BG when your current fixed rate expires. You'll be paying their variable rate rather than a fix.Do you have a broker you usually deal with?N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Kirk Hill Co-op member.Ofgem cap table, Ofgem cap explainer. Economy 7 cap explainer. Gas vs E7 vs peak elec heating costs, Best kettle!

Thank you.Business Energy is a different kettle of fish compared to domestic. And with regards to out of contract business unit rates... well if you think the domestic variable projections for domestic were scary, you're going to be in for a shock and you'll want to go onto a fix.Get in touch with a broker (the best business energy deals are sourced that way rather than the likes of uSwitch which is aimed primarily at domestic) and see what you can find. If you're coming off a fix that was good for the last three years then whatever you go onto is going to be more expensive. Join the club.0 -
It's an absolute minefield and everyone is contradicting each other.
I am with SE Gas.
SE say I will pay 7.5p for each kWh of gas (I use 80,000 a year).
The government will then pay the difference between 7.5p and the true unit cost.
A Broker says.
The 7.5p will not be the price. That is the government discount and the customer will pay the difference ,
True cost minus the 7.5p government contribution = 13.5p per unit in my case.
However, both SE Has and the broker says it is still a bit of an unknown and will only become clear once the customer is billed.
I've got until the 31st to sort this and I thought it would be clearer by now having had the announcement a couple of weeks ago.

out of contract is quoted at 27pNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
