EE £50 120Gb/12 months Data SIM only valid for 6 months

The reality of this deal is that it's actually either £50 for 120Gb of data for upto 6 months, or £55 +faff for 120Gb of data over 12 months, plus £4.55 of PAYG credit.
The story:
Bought one of these in December and it stopped working recently
A phone call to EE revealed
28th Dec 2021: SIM activated
28th Jun 2022: SIM suspended
26th Sep 2022: SIM cancelled
I've been consuming data up until the end of May!
Turns out that consuming data is not considered "using the SIM" - you have to make a call or send a text, so you have to top up, waste 3x15p on text messages every 3 months which leaves you with £4.55.
The only notification of the suspension and cancellation is an SMS - useless when you have the SIM inserted in a router with no SMS support - and nothing is sent to the contact number and email address you enter when registering for MyEE.

To complete your warning could you confirm where you sourced this SIM from?
If it was EBS Telecoms via Amazon then from the reviews you are not alone in your crap experience.
Edit: It wasn't.0 -
Came from Argos (click and collect). This "deal" isn't available directly from EE.
