Have they tried to capture payment for the energy used 20-21 in 21-22 by estimating the conditions to be the same rather than using the actual readings? So they think now 22-23 we will have another bad winter therefore their estimation has gone up again to over 30000kWh. They don't know I've switched off the boiler so they're assuming that we're using the central heating. It's their estimations rather than my readings that are driving the bills. If I can show the actual usage for 21-22 would that not show them that the payments made within that period were unreasonably high and my account would be in credit after the recalculations based on usage?
If you call them tomorrow and explain, assuming you can actually get through to someone, I think you'll have a good chance of getting your DD reduced from £264, maybe to £200 or something like that.
SSE should be reviewing your DD again in about six months, so (if all else fails) it should come out in the wash in April.

I thought they couldn't issue catch-up bills. Especially when a year's worth of estimated readings were used.

I'm hoping that I can show actual usage for the DD payment to be reduced. I'd be happy with a variable DD if the payments taken reflect the actual usage instead of an estimation.

They can if they do it within 12 months, you'd have to give us your meter readings and their estimates back to before March '21 before we could say if they have done anything improper with regard to the billing...

I can't do this with SSE because their online bills stop at January 2021. Only readings and estimates I have I listed earlier x
  • *Update*

    I spoke to SSE today.

I think the highlight was the lady in customer service who said (after reeling off her script to tell me that they have an online system and app that I can use to view my bills and query them) "oh the bills online aren't the real bills, we have updated bills here that we can post out to you" 🤨

So if the online bills aren't real, yet are the ones my payments are calculated from, what is the point of pushing people to use the online/app system? More to the point, where are my "real" bills???

Anyway, the agent she transferred me through to was actually on the ball and she took all of my meter readings and has requested a recalculation. She tried to do a new forecast for me but couldn't until the recalc had completed which could take a few days. So now it's a slight waiting game until that is done but at least, whichever way it falls, it should be accurate.
