What did the meter say by the end of the journey? Surely if he had started the meter early or otherwise tried to scam, then to pay off it would have to end up at a higher price than the £13.50.

He turned the meter off when his boss told me the correct fare. That's another thing that made me suspicious.

I did call the company and was told the normal start price was £3.50 and £5 at weekends.

  • Make a formal complaint to them.

I'd also include a complaint about him lying that he'd turned up at your location and then asking you to make your way to where he actually was!

Prevent any other unfortunate customers from falling victim to this idiot...

Hi thanks, yes I did complain when I rang to ask the proper rates. And I got a very helpful lady who wrote it all down and read it all back to me. She was very thorough. So hopefully he will get some kind of warning.

I am gla dyou have made a complaint.

We use Vcars/veezu when in Bristol a couple of times a year and they have always been great.. wheelchair and various bags travel with me so not an 'easy' passenger.

We have had the offer of being picked up somewhere else a very short walk away (although with fibro maybe too far) when there has been roadworks etc.. eg we can get you from X but roadworaks are making journey much longer/more expensive if you can walk to Y it will be quicker.. but it was our decision.  Actually helpful when trying to get a specific train home.

I am sure the starting rate isnt £10.. i would have noticed that, we were there at the start of this month over a Sunday.

    Hi Cyclamen,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I understand. I have fibro too and osteoarthritis. And on that day, a heavy suitcase. I am lucky though. I don't need a stick or wheelchair. I'm just slow.

I imagine it must be difficult for you getting about. But glad you were able to make it a short distance to get to an understanding taxi driver.

Take care, hope you don't get the idiot I got when you need a Bristol taxi in future!

Lets just say Travel is a challenge for me.. and Bristol is a fan of cobbles and uneven pavements ;-) but a lovely place.

The buses are pretty good too .. but with a suitcase i am guessing to much of a challenge to use buses for you?

It really helps when people complain about the rogues as it keeps it safe for those who come afterwards.  We have always had lovely taxi drivers, bus drivers in Bristol in fact I think it a very friendly city.  I hope your next visit meets just the good uns
