Setting up standing order to Virgin Money Cash ISA from Santander

Hi

When I go to set up a monthly standing order to my Virgin Money Cash ISA from my Santander account, I get the following message:

"We can't verify the details you entered because the bank or account you want to pay isn't part of the payee checking service."

Does anyone know why this might be?

I'm sure I've entered the correct details (sort code and account number with Virgin Money) but I'm reluctant to go ahead with it.

Thanks

Paul

It is because the bank or account you want to pay isn't part of the payee checking service, as the message says.

You can safely ignore this message if you are 100% certain you used the correct payee details. To be doubly sure, send £1 only first, and the rest once you have confirmed the £1 has arrived.

Virgin use (IIRC) another bank for their offerings, which generates this message.  IIRC the sort code they offer for paying in purposes used to belong to Northern Rock, which no longer exists, as Virgin Money bought it.

Clydesdale Bank who own Virgin Money are a full clearing bank so clear their own payments.

Assuming the ISA isn’t one of the “exclusive” ones linked to the VM current account, they just have not implemented Confirmation of Payee on the legacy Northern Rock sort codes, probably because the IT used for those probably isn’t able to deal with it. It does work on the current account (and possibly therefore the “exclusive” ISAs
