Are Sellers going to be more willing to break the chain?

Breaking the chain can be an option, but it may not be seen as the 'good idea' you are proposing by the person at the top of the chain. Moving houses twice can also be seen as a bridge too far.1

The rule for me has always been to buy and sell in the same market so I don’t care if it’s falling or rising it makes absolutely no odds to me but I will not step off the ladder. With the state of the rental market i.e. very few available it would be quite a gamble.4

We were asked to break the chain last year when we tired to sell as our initial purchase fell through...and we really did try and find a rental but with 2 dogs, a cat and a small child finding a property was impossible (and we could afford a decent monthly rental price). We live in an area that had a huge unflux of cash buyers who has sold in the South East and had moved here waiting for a suitable property to come up so all the rentals were already taken...not to mention your standard renters...so we just couldn't find anything. It was incredibly stressful and in the end we had to make everyone wait...our buyer then.got fed up of waiting and pulled out. So we stayed put for another year rather than face it all again!
We are in the process again now and hopefully about to exchange. From the outset we said we would not be breaking the chain etc, our buyers would have to wait for us. Ironically this time around major delays have been from our buyers solicitors...
I honestly think it depends on people's personal circumstances so no I don't think you can expect that people will be more willing.2 -
Just out of interest, have you sold for the same price as you did last year?trakky14 said:We were asked to break the chain last year when we tired to sell as our initial purchase fell through...and we really did try and find a rental but with 2 dogs, a cat and a small child finding a property was impossible (and we could afford a decent monthly rental price). Nope, a lot more! However we are also paying more than we would have last year so swings and roundabouts!lookstraightahead said:
