Edf direct debit

Government grant is being paid into my account directly apparently. Not bothered either way it still ends up paying edf.victor2 said:Monster_mash said:
I’m on a 2 year fix which I joined about 6 months ago[Deleted User] said:Did you not expect some sort of increase, given the news over the last nine months or so?Work out if the rate EDF are proposing is reasonable. Did you have a credit or debit balance at your last bill? That and the £400 government grant needs taking into account. One annoying issue with EDF is that they only bill once every 6 months, so until they produce a statement from a reading, your account will probably show a large credit. You know your annual usage, so it's pretty easy to work out your annual cost on the fixed tariff from that (don't forget the standing charge). If you don't have a recent statement, work out your current actual balance if readings were submitted today, add your annual cost and divide by 12. That will be a realistic monthly cost. Deduct £67 from the monthly cost and that should be a reasonable amount to pay for the next 6 months, before reverting back to your calculated amount. If you need help with the calculations, there's many people on here will assist if you post your rates. The credit is quite small, last year it was huge but they said that’s normal. Total use based on last year’s useage and the tariff I am on is about £1500 so a reasonable monthly figure is about £120 if divided equally over 12 months. It looks like my dd being too low means their £1800 estimate has by their figures had about £500 paid off it in 6 months. A direct debit figure they set 🤦♂️
6 month bills are an absolute nuisance0 -
When EDF increase a direct debit they tell you on your bill rather than a separate email or text. Have you looked at your bills? Not everyone reads them properly then complain when the direct debit is increased saying they haven’t been told.0

Not had that type of email content - only a prompt to look at my account for the letter. Due a review next week .molerat said:Robin9 said:You will not get an email, letter, text or phone call. You should get an e-mail for a DD changeAs well as "An update to your direct debit" letter in your account activity.Account number xxxxxxxxxx
Dear xxxxxxxxxxx
We can confirm that the amount of your monthly Direct Debit has changed to £xx.xx. This is based on your most recent review and the information you provided during the sign-up process. However, because your Direct Debit has now been decreased, you must consider the possibility that you may end up paying too little for your energy over the year.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

6 month bills are an absolute nuisanceI left EDF over a year ago, not least because of their 6 month billing system. The good news is they will be moving all their customers over to the Kraken billing system developed by Octopus in 2023. With that you can submit readings every month and get a statement within hours of a reading going in.Normally, on a monthly DD account, you will have a sizeable credit built up by this time of year, which will help cover your winter heating costs. It doesn't sound as if they are a million miles out with their estimated cost and DD, but if they acknowledged they didn't notify you before of a DD change, it could be worth complaining again. Difficult to switch suppliers these days. I seem to remember EDF were amenable to my suggested DD changes through their online chat system, once you'd got past the annoying robot.

Is it possible that the OP has a "paperless" option box ticked, so any communications are online and the onus is on the individual to check the online system?

Nope, I get paper bills. The only feasible thing is that edf have prevented communication by email, text etc, possibly because the previous owners wanted it that wayGrumpy_chap said:Is it possible that the OP has a "paperless" option box ticked, so any communications are online and the onus is on the individual to check the online system?0 -
Do you have an online account? You can still have one & get paper billsMonster_mash said:
