Utilita - Pre Pay or DD?

I've  recently purchased a property and the Gas & Electric are provided by Utilita and on pre pay. I realise switching currently is a non option but would it be a better idea for me to move to Direct Debit? I do like the idea of managing my costs by prepayment but would probably use the same amount of energy either way and as far as I'm aware Direct Debit would save a small amount?

Welcome to the forum, and to your new home!
Depending on your consumption, pre-pay is likely to work out cheaper at present.
If you choose to change to DD you'll find the tariffs are pretty much the same with every supplier under the terms of the government's Energy Price Guarantee so there's not much to gain by switching.
Should you want to switch, you'll probably need to do it by phone since most suppliers aren't accepting on-line switches at present.

Bearing in mind there is little difference between DD rates, Utilita do have a DD option.
  • Thanks for the replies. I've always been Direct Debit so Pre Pay is new to me, I've read plenty on the positives and negatives of both but most articles are pre energy crisis so weighing up my best option currently. If it's no difference of probably prefer DD as I don't have to monitor my balance and worry about topping up however if I can save a few pounds a month manually topping up I'd happily stick with it
