Nationwide Flexdirect current a/c

Hi just tried to do a switch to Flexdirect current a/c and was notified that for this one needs to have a Nationwide current account. I thought the whole idea is to transfer your current account from other bank to Nationwide. Has anyone encountered the same problem? As I see no point in transferring my current account from another bank and then opening one more current account with NW.

FlexDirect is a current account in itself, you don't need an additional current account for it, if you did it via the website it sounds like it's broken!

Agreed. This does sound very strange. I suggest trying again and, if you still get the same error message, talk to your local Nationwide branch (assuming that you have one nearby). Alternatively, you could phone Nationwide. The phone number for help with FlexDirect accounts is, according to their website, 03456 07 73 57.

Thanks, I thought it was strange. I'll have another try next day. If no- will call them.

Many of Nationwide's accounts are named Flex something or other so it's easy to get them confused. Make sure you're not applying for one of the savings accounts, such as Flex Instant Saver, by mistake.0

Are you trying to meet the terms of a recent switch offer? Because if so, they may be offering different switch amounts for "new" customers and "existing" customers. Hence you might have been advised to open an account first (and become an "existing" customer), and then switch your old account into the newly opened Nationwide account.THERAPHOSA21 said:Hi just tried to do a switch to Flexdirect current a/c and was notified that for this one needs to have a Nationwide current account. It sounds as though the OP was indeed trying to open a savings account. Some of the higher interest paying savings accounts require the holder to have a current account with them (doesn't have to be Flex Direct, just one with Nationwide).EarthBoy said:Many of Nationwide's accounts are named Flex something or other so it's easy to get them confused. Sorry if I've misunderstood, but you need to open a FlexDirect account at Nationwide and THEN switch your account at another bank into it. This may be part of the same application, but you can't initiate a switch without first having (or applying for) a FlexDirect account.
