Hi,

Has anyone got a job and been able to continue with DRO? Is there a threshold of earnings? Thank you.

You quoted the rule yourself - you are allowed up to £75 per month surplus income.

Most people go into a DRO with zero surplus or even a technical negative because they are scrimping on food etc just to survive.

When you start earning your benefits will go down, you will get less help with rent and council tax. Your travel costs will probably go up. You'll be able to eat and heat properly.

Most people would have to be straight into a high-paying job to lose the DRO and if that IS the case, you could start repaying the debts.
  • Thank you for confirming.
  • Just related to this....I'm thinking "it would be just my luck my boss decides to give everyone a 2% pay increase in April to help with cost of living"

Assuming that I still have less than £75 left on my budget each month, how would that work? Would I need to let StepChange know my new income and outgoings?

"If your circumstances change" is a bit vague.

Your dealings with Stepchange end once the barcoded letter is received, you won`t have any further contact with them.

If you have to self-declare any changes to your disposable income, you contact the insolvency service.
They only need advising of a change that would significantly take your disposable income over the £75 mark, there is no requirement to inform them of anything else.

And remember, when or if your income rises by at least the level of inflation, so do your costs, so small increases would be cancelled out, just use common sense.

Most clients make it through the 12 months without any hitches.
