Travel insurance (Covid positive) - start date of policy

Hi,

We booked a last minute holiday and booked travel insurance to start on the day we were due to travel.  Our destination had strict Covid rules, we spoke to Insure and Go to make sure anyone in the family getting a positive Covid result would be covered.

Two of the family tested positive the day before travel.  Insure and Go are saying this isn't covered as the insurance policy doesn't start until the day of travel.

Is this our fault for not starting the policy earlier?

Is it a single trip policy or annual?

If its an annual policy you are only covered for issues that occur on or after the start date, give you were sick before the start date it wouldnt be covered.

Single trip doesnt have a buyer declared start date, its instant, and so wouldnt have an issue.
  • it was a single trip policy.

Then what you declare is the start of the holiday not the start of the insurance... policy commences immediately as soon as you buy & pay.

    When does your trip start?

    Please use date format DD/MM/YYYY

You'll be covered for cancellation as soon as you buy your policy.

You bought your insurance on the day of travel.
Some of your party got covid 1 days before your holiday ie day of travel, started therefore  not covered
Or am I reading this wrong
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Can you give us the date you were due to travel and the date you bought your policy.
do you know when you called insure and go e.g. time and date on a mobile phone?

Btw - I always ask questions like that in chat and get an email transcript. If it’s really important I take a photo of the screen in case transcript doesn’t arrive.
  • Ask them when cover started - if the policy only started on day of travel you’ll have no claim, but if it started when purchased you should keep pushing IMO.
