Replacement Cordless Drill Battery

Hi,

I have a great DeWalt cordless drill but the batteries have died and original replacements are not available, but there are plenty of pattern ones that are. Does anyone know if the pattern batteries are any good? Also, the replacements are sold as direct fit for my drill model, but come on three formats - original Ni-cd, Ni-mh and Li-ion, even though each battery type apparently requires its own dedicated charger. So will my charger work with the Ni-my or Li-ion or do the batteries come with a new charger?

My boss ordered me a couple of non de-Walt replacement drill batteries from Amazon, I don’t use my drill that often so I don’t know how long they’ll last compared to the original, but they seem ok..

Ni-Cd batteries are pretty rubbish to be honest, Ni-Mh or Li-On are much better.
Have you checked the price of new batteries compared to a new drill?  Quite often a battery can be almost as much as a whole new drill.
  • I really don't want to throw away a perfectly good drill for the want of a battery.

You can sell the newer one via FB etc and effectivly be in profit on the battery cost

I have a decent de Walt drill, with Ni cd batteries. I bought a random replacement battery for it several years ago, and it’s still okay. I bought ni cd, as I wasn’t convinced that the charger would work properly with  ni Mh. I may just have been lucky, but I can confirm that  not all clones are terrible.

You can recell the old batteries, if you want to be really good.

In a similar situation in that my old style makita batteries needed replacing, bought 2 replacements off eBay and I was constantly swapping and recharging doing intensive work, drilling multiple holes in wood or masonry. I'd say for occasional DIY use you'd be fine unless you're taking on large projects (which at the moment I am)

Sold the drill and batteries for £50 and bought a new set in screwfix for £150 with 2 5ah batteries included. Going brushless especially, I absolutely love the new drill, worth the spend to upgrade imo - especially if you're considering any extra body only tools any time soon.
