ebay question buyer not paid

Options
Seems to have changed - what do I do when a buyer hasn't paid - I am sure there used to be an option but cannot find anything. Does it just time out by itself? Thanks.

If it doesn’t time out on its own after 4 full days have elapsed then the option to cancel is still on the drop down menu by the sale. Use the cancel option and then ‘buyer didn’t pay’. Remember to block the buyer from trying to buy again.

  • I've often tried blagging my way through by threatening the non paying buyer that I will re auction the item and sell it for less and then claim any difference thru the SCC from them. It's worked once or twice. But most non payers couldn't care less......who can blame them, the penalties are virtually non existant.

I can’t see any point in making daft threats and getting stressed. Just do the NPB cancellation and make sure your seller settings are set to exclude any buyer with 2 or more strikes in the past year.
I don't get stressed......It's just great fun. If they want to muck me about I'm happy to reciprocate.

I've just sold something on ebay and the buyer had to pay before I sent it.

So I don't know how these situations occur, really. I received an email from eBay saying my item had sold, send now. So I did and the next thing, even before the buyer had received the parcel, I had a notification that the payment would be in my bank within 3-5 working days. It was.

No problem. How can buyers circumvent the payment part? It's always been a mystery to me.

But if you do everything via the eBay messaging system, you'll get your money back because that's the 100% guarantee. If you don't go via eBay then anything can and does happen.

I'm more of an eBay buyer than seller but I have to say that I've never had a problem. Maybe I'm just lucky. If I buy anything though it's usually not via an auction it's just 'buy it now'. I have to pay first and then the seller sends the parcel. So far so good and nobody ever wants to boast but I've got an overall 100% rating.

PS soolin knows what's what with eBay, it'd be wise to take their advice.

"I've just sold something on ebay and the buyer had to pay before I sent it. "

I don't think there is any suggestion that anyone is sending before payment.

"No problem. How can buyers circumvent the payment part? It's always been a mystery to me. "

If you only sell via BIN with immediate payment required, then you will never get a non payer as they physically can't buy unless they pay. However, any auction can have a winner that goes on not to pay, even BINs with best offer can result in a non payer, they send me an offer and I accept, and they don't pay. Or I send them an offer and they accept it and don't pay.

"But if you do everything via the eBay messaging system, you'll get your money back because that's the 100% guarantee. If you don't go via eBay then anything can and does happen. "

There is no money to get back as seller hasn't sent anything as no money was paid. This thread was from the viewpoint of a seller, not a buyer.

"So far so good and nobody ever wants to boast but I've got an overall 100% rating. "

A buyer can only be 100% as they cannot be left a negative or neutral so their feedback can never be affected.

There are a number of posts and threads on other forums mentioning that sellers have got begging emails from buyers unable to bid due to the strikes they have, and an interesting one on the eBay discussion board  about 6 weeks or so ago from a buyer whinging that eBay was broken as he was being blocked from some sellers auctions.  It that transpired it was because he was a serial non payer who had a habit of bidding on one or two identical items and only completing on the cheapest one.
Yeah, I've had a few emails in the past from "mystified" people trying to bid on my auctions but not being able to because of my listing settings and you can always verify thats the reason by looking at the Activity Log, but i'm curious to know what kind of message ebay pops up to a bidder in this situation, I'm guessing it doesnt say anything about why the bidder can't bid (although it probably should!)

Apparently the message is along the lines of ‘this seller is not currently allowing your bids’. It is similar to the one they get if you have blocked them manually by name.i haven’t seen one to confirm that though .
